Autumn Workshops 2022

The autumn workshop season is about to begin, and I'm excited to get back into the recreation hall and start painting and printing with everyone.
I'm not sure what it is about this time of year, but it brings a renewed sense of inspiration. As the nights grow longer and the temperature drops, the colours change into crisp tones of rust, ochre, burnt sienna, emerald, amethyst and rich umber -- impossible to resist!
A change of season is the perfect opportunity to try new mediums, colours and compositions. It's also a great time to revisit a favourite seasonal composition or subject. I love approaching a familiar scene, animal or object and observing it with fresh eyes to create something new and exciting.
Throughout this new season of workshops, I will encourage us to work on approaching our subjects with a focus on observation and reflection.
"Try to forget what objects you have before you - a tree, a house, a field, or whatever. Merely think, 'Here is a little square of blue, here an oblong of pink, here a streak of yellow,' and paint it just as it looks to you, the exact color and shape, until it gives you your own impression of the scene before you." - Claude Monet
My goal is to help everyone, regardless of their ability, access a place of mindful creativity. Creating with a sense of fun, curiosity, and calm is the ultimate way to relax for a few hours.
I'm delighted to say that over the last twelve months, we've built a supportive, fun group of art enthusiasts from East Lothian and beyond. I'm always grateful for the encouragement and generous feedback - it keeps me working hard to bring new ideas and approaches to workshops.
I look forward to seeing you at a session soon.
