"I remember" (written in January 2020) was the poem that inspired me to create this series of memoir essays.

It's inspired by a potent memory of my early years in Berakas Camp, Brunei. My dad built a wooden hut at the front of the house. He called it his ‘bar’. He would sit and enjoy a “sun-downer” (cold beer) with my mum. Often, I would join them and watch the sky dissolve into the sea to the rattle and hum of nighttime jungle life.
